Parodontitis

Most patients think that parodontitis is not treated – it is a wrong belief. Patients often have no idea about their illness. Parodontitis is treated and very successfully, it’s important to determine a diagnosis timely, estimate prognosis and prescribe medication. Periodentist will help you with this.

The most frequently met forms of parodontitis – is chronical parodontitis – infectious inflammatory disease of dental ligamentous apparatus (gingivae, dental ligament, bone). The disease is caused by bacterial plaque being by nature of bacterium complex attached to surface of tooth. Further bacterium penetration through sulcus leads to ginvigitis, ligament destruction, formation of gingival pockets. The pockets can reach 4,6 and even 10 mm, at the rate of 2-3 mm.

The signs indicating development of parodontitis:

• bleeding gum;
• bad breath, itching and burning in gingivae;
• baring of root of tooth;
• tooth mobility and change of their location;
• space formation between roots of the tooth and gingival as a result of bone discussion;
• pain, pyorrhea from gingivae are possible during recrudescence.

For specification of parodontitis severity the periodentist carries on investigation:

• identifies the amount of dental plaque and calculus, degree of bleeding gum;
• measures the depths of pockets with the help of special probe;
• makes X-ray examination(orthopantomogram);
• makes an analysis of typodont;
• carries out a laboratory investigation (presence of parodontopathogenic bacteria).

A diagnosis is made after the examination.

Parodontitis treatment

• professional hygiene is carried out by a hygienist;
• after periodentist’s consulatation a plan of periodentistry is developed that depending on severity degree could consist of the following procedures:
  • scaling (mechanical removal of bacterial dental accumulation, plaque);
  • curettage (removal of pocket epithelium and granulation tissues by curettages);
  • flap surgery using membrane and bone substitute.

After the basic course of treatment it is necessary to carry out preventive procedures once in three months or according to individual plan developed by the periodentist.

Gingivitis, parodontitis and parodontosis belong to the most common parodontium diseases.

By progression of parodontium disease bed breath, swelling gum, gingival pockets, gum recession leading to neck of tooth exposure, deformation and destruction of bone tissue leading to tooth mobility and loss appear.
